MTX Connect is a new Luxembourg data-only MVNO that recently launched its mobile broadband internet access for people traveling in Europe. The service offers travelers in Europe a pre-paid SIM card that delivers mobile broadband internet access over 3G throughout the continent at a flat rate.
MTX Connect says its goal is to “relieve travelers of unpredictable roaming charges and the hassle of sorting through more cost-effective options.”
There are a lot of global roaming services out there, so it can be difficult to decide at first glance if MTX Connect is right for you. If you’re not a big fan of paying for additional bundled services with your roaming data, then it could be a good fit for your needs. The MTX SIM card also doesn’t expire, so you don’t have to worry about having money you’ve invested in the card simply disappear.

Another thing to consider is the fact that MTX Connect’s SIM card itself is free a la WorldSIM so you don’t have to pay an initial (albeit small) out-of-pocket cost to be able to have all the equipment you need to use the service.
MTX is a budding company based in Luxembourg and operating in 12 European countries.
“[Luxembourg] is geographically advantageous for us as an international MVNO that needs to establish and maintain relationships with mobile operators in each EU country,” explained MTX Connect Managing Director Mikhail Kornev. “Luxembourg’s infrastructural assets such as rich fiber-optic connectivity and data centers with attractive rates are also a plus. And the multinational tech-oriented community creates an excellent technology entrepreneurship culture, which benefits both start-ups and more established companies.
“Finally, the small and efficient government’s continuous support of the ICT sector provides an excellent business environment — in a word, the Silicon Valley of Europe.”
The Luxembourg Minister for Communications and Media Xavier Bettel welcomes the presence of MTX Connect in Luxembourg and underlines that their presence “confirms that Luxembourg is an ideal place for telecom companies developing their business into Europe” while the Minister of the Economy Etienne Schneider is “delighted that a Luxembourg based company offers a single pre-paid SIM card that travelers can use during their stay in Luxembourg and their trip throughout Europe.”
MTX Connect SIM card can be activated instantly in any 3G compatible mobile device. Customers can choose to pay by the day or by the megabyte, at rates comparable to local European carriers.
While MTX Connect currently operates in Luxembourg and 12 more European countries, the company expects to add four more countries by the end of July and most EU countries by the end of summer.
