Skype, Skype for Android, Tablet VoIP apps

Skype has really been on a roll with the updates lately. An update for Apple devices rolled out iOS7 compatibility just a couple of days ago and Windows Phone users got extra functionality added earlier this month. Now its Android users’ turn, particularly if they’re using Android tablets.

In early July, a new, modern design rolled out to Android smartphones with version 4.0 and now that same experience is available for tablets too, including the Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX.

Skype calls, Skype friends, Skype updateTablet users will now see a new interface that displays the most recent calls and chats as shown at the photo on the left. Skype also says that quality improvements, bug fixes, and “performance advancements” are also extended to tablets with the update, in addition to these other notable enhancements:

  • Accessibility improvements with full support for TalkBack screen reader
  • Updates that address incoming call issues, including one that was causing phones to reboot
  • Additional changes to audio routing
  • Display and UX enhancements when switching orientation
