Voxer App, Voxer PTT, Push To Talk

Voxer push to talk is a unique PTT and messaging application that allows users to communicate in real-time via either walkie talkie voice or text.

Recently, the company launched its Voxer Pro and Voxer Pro Business apps for Android and iOS, and also launched the consumer version of its app for Windows Phone. As the year progresses, we were curious to see where the application’s versions would go from here and what new features, if any, would come to the push to talk application. Thankfully, we had the opportunity to get a few of these questions from Voxer’s COO Itamar Kandel answered in a brief interview, which we’ve posted below.

1. What sets Voxer apart from other push to talk and messaging applications on the market?
Voxer is a next-generation professional communications platform, which has already amassed a community of tens of millions of users. Unlike our competitors, Voxer is the only worldwide app where every push-to-talk voice message is simultaneously live and recorded, with voice messages stored in a single interface alongside text, photo and location for convenient playback at the user’s convenience. Voxer is also unique in that its technology allows messages to be transferred over Wi-Fi and 3G/4G/LTE networks, instead of traditional cellular service. This is incredibly useful for people who are travelling internationally, need to communicate in areas without cell reception, or simply don’t want to waste cell minutes.

Voxer is also setting itself apart from its competitors by offering Voxer Pro Business, a push-to-talk service uniquely designed for businesses. Voxer Pro Business provides workforces with the only push-to-talk (PTT) solution that is live and recorded, but also features Voxer Pro Manager, a desktop business communication system that allows companies administrative control and ownership of a private network of employee communication. Additional Voxer Pro Business features include headset integration and a real-time map with geotagged locations to help manage employees.

It’s been our goal since Voxer was founded in 2007 to develop a platform for professional audiences, and we’re excited to achieve that with the launch of Voxer Pro Business.

“Voxer Pro Business provides workforces with the only push-to-talk solution that is live and recorded…”

2. Regarding Voxer Pro, what are the benefits of Voxer Pro over the regular Voxer and is it just marketed toward business professionals? What are some of the unique differences between the two versions?
We’re actually launching two upgrades: Voxer Pro is $2.99/month or $29.99/year in-app feature upgrade which will be accessible through the regular Voxer consumer app. By upgrading to Voxer Pro, users will receive added features and benefits like live interrupt mode and extreme notifications. We designed Voxer Pro for power users who want higher-end features.

In comparison, Voxer Pro Business offers a variety of additional features specifically tailored to businesses. We built Voxer Pro Business in response to consumer feedback asking for new professional-grade components to the existing Voxer app. These include an admin portal, live map locations for your different team members, and ownership over content and sent messages. Voxer Pro Business will be $4.95 per month per users until October 1st, when the price increases to $9.95 per month per user. (The price increase is for planned features that we’ll add to the service.)

Both of these upgrades include all of the original Voxer features: push-to-talk, photo sharing and texting, between users or in group chats.

3. Is the consumer version planned for release on Windows 8, web-based, BlackBerry 10, Firefox OS, or other platforms in the future?
We are currently exploring other platform options, and cannot yet share exact details regarding what new platform will come first. However, we certainly realize how important having a desktop version of the application is for businesses, and that will be a big priority for us in terms of development moving forward.

“We are currently exploring other platform options…”

4. What is the biggest hurdle the Voxer team is looking to overcome in the near future?
We just officially launched Voxer Pro, Voxer Pro Business, and Voxer for Windows Phone, so it’s been a busy few weeks for us! Right now we’re completely focused on building out Voxer Pro Business, and our biggest goal moving forward is to develop new features that better support businesses of all sizes. We value customer feedback, and focus to build out new products and features based on customer input as well as around the new ideas that we have.

If you haven’t yet done so and you happen to have Android, iOS, or Windows Phone, you can download the latest version of Voxer by searching for the app in your respective app store. Have you used the app yet?
