Voxer

Voxer is a communications company that provides a walkie-talkie (push-to-talk) application on Android, Windows Phone, and iOS. The application is free of charge, does not require a contract to use, and works on any Wi-Fi, 2G, 3G, or 4G network worldwide.

The consumer version of the service allows users to transmit voice messages over wireless networks to other Voxer users for free. In addition, Voxer allows users to send both text and picture messages back and forth, also for free.

Voxer was founded in 2007 by Tom Katis. However, the very first version of the Voxer application didn’t launch until February 2011, when it launched on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. Nearly 8 months later, in October of that same year, the app launched for the first time on Android. The Windows Phone version launched June 27, 2013.

Voxer released its Pro and Pro Business apps, the company’s business-grade communications tool, on June 25 on Android and iOS devices. Moving forward, the company will be looking to build out Voxer Pro with new features and providing a high-level of ongoing support for the product. In addition, the company announced it would release Pro and Pro Business for Windows Phone, with the official release occurring in March 2014.

Voxer for Web, an extension of the company’s business-grade application, was officially announced on October 15, 2013 and features the unique ability to interact with team members via mobile or web-based applications.

Voxer released its app for the Apple Watch in May of 2015.

On November 18, 2013, Voxer Business was named Best Overall App in the first annual Silicon Valley Business App Awards and was also the recipient of the 2014 Mobility Tech Zone Product of the Year Award in May 2014.
