This may come as no surprise to some, but if you’ve been wondering when you’ll be able to use Kik Messenger natively on your BlackBerry Z10, you may have to wait awhile. A user-submitted photo anonymously sent to our inbox has revealed an email message in which a member of the Kik support team has stated that there are “no immediate plans” to support BB10 users. At the same time, however, the message does not completely shrug off future support unlike initial plans by WhatsApp to not support the platform.
For those who have been waiting for the arrival of the popular cross-platform instant messaging app to arrive, it is indeed still possible to utilize Kik on BB10 by sideloading the Android version, though the experience won’t be nearly as good and you won’t be able to run the app in the background very well; you may have to open the app in order to receive any messages.
Kik Messenger is currently available for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone. While there are alternatives (including BlackBerry’s own native BBM), anyone who wants to communicate easily across multiple platforms with Kik will have to utilize the sideloading option or simply be patient.
