Our new Leaks section is already getting plenty of love. Coupled with the Nokia Lumia 719 leak we posted earlier, we we’ve also been following some alleged leaks of Samsung’s highly-anticipated Galaxy S III Android phone over the course of the weekend, trying to gather as much information and hard evidence as we could before going ahead and posting an article. While we are confident in some of what we’ve found, please keep in mind that this is, of course, a leak and so is not officially confirmed by Samsung.
We have reported on the Samsung Galaxy S III (or S3 for short) in previous articles, one listing the leaked specs (which we have also moved to our new Leaks section), one listing an April release date, and then another retracting the April release date after a statement from Samsung. Needless to say, the Galaxy S III has definitely been one interesting twist and turn after another.
As the weekend began, an alleged photo of the device was discovered by Android Central on Reddit. The photo, shown below, was thought to be genuine by some, and a very clever fake by others. With this photo, we’ll let you, our loyal readers, be the judge:
Along with the above image comes a new rumor Samsung is planning to unveil the Galaxy S III on May 22nd, as a tie-in to the Summer Olympics in London where the announcement would take place. Samsung is a big sponsor for the London 2012 games, so that does make some sense. In addition, the Weber Shandwick logo found in the bottom right corner of the image belongs to a PR firm (one Samsung may or may not use), but it does add some “reality” to the image.
Then another photo (shown above this article) was found on Sunday, lending yet another whisper as to whether or not the leaks are true. According to the Reddit user, who says he has a friend working at Samsung:
He said that it will possibly have two optional launchers, ICS with touchwiz overlay and vanilla ICS. They aren’t 100 percent sure if they will stick with touchwiz or have the dual launcher option. If they go dual, you will have the option of picking which one to use at startup, and you can change any time. He said it has a 4.7 inch screen that nearly takes up the whole phone, but some bezel space was needed for the camera, speakers, mic, and so cases would fit on it. He said it WILL be HD and have a ceramic “micro arc oxidation” back.
Take from that what you will. The reality is, there is nothing we can say for certain at this time. As we head into the new week, the Samsung leaks and rumors continue. We’ll keep digging around for more information. Until then, stay tuned to TruTower.com!
