Sony Xperia E, Sony Mobile Android Smartphone, Phones by Sony

For those on global SIM cards, dual-SIM phones are especially useful. Despite the fact that smartphones packing the functionality are usually entry-level to mid-range, they are nevertheless a very welcome part of the technosphere.

Sony’s latest offering is its Xperia E Dual, the dual-SIM cousin of the Xperia E. The Xperia E Dual was released in the UK at the beginning of the month, but has not made its way to the United States until now. The phone is available in two colors — black and champagne — both of which are sold (unlocked, of course) at a price of $199.

The Xperia E Dual uses UMTS/HSPA and GPRS/EDGE technology and is packed with a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 pixel display, is powered by a single-core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, includes 512 MB of RAM, and is loaded with 4GB of internal storage, which is expandable with a microSD card. All of this is powered by a 1,500 mAh battery and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

If you’re looking for a device with a powerful camera, you may want to look elsewhere; the phone comes with a 3.2 MP rear-facing camera in addition to a front camera. Still, the dual-SIM functionality is the spotlight feature here, so lower quality specs are to be expected. If you’re looking for a dual-SIM phone with which to use your global SIM alongside your standard carrier SIM, you may want to give the Sony Xperia E Dual more than just a second glance.
