ooVoo released its open source SDK to developers on July 22, 2013, allowing app developers to integrate VoIP within their apps.
ooVoo’s claim to fame is its ability to allow users to record high-quality calls in real-time and its HD video conference calling feature, which enables up to 12 users — six via video and six via voice — to communicate simultaneously with one another. ooVoo also provides its users with real-time warnings about performance and latency during usage. Other features include desktop sharing, file sharing, and calling to landlines for a fee. Video call recording is also available to users as a paid feature.
Because of its ability to connect a large number of users simultaneously, ooVoo is often used by many businesses to keep in touch with coworkers and employees.
ooVoo released its app on Windows Phone in early June 2014. The ooVoo app was being planned for release on BlackBerry 10 devices later in 2013 according to reports in late January 2013, but no release date has been announced.
ooVoo currently has over 82 million registered users and was the winner of the Tabby Award for its Android application on August 27, 2013.
