Despite earlier rumors of Samsung slapping a quad Cortex-A15 CPU inside their upcoming Galaxy S IV smartphone with the Exynos 5450 chipset, a new rumor suggests that the processor could be more powerful than that.
EETimes is reporting that Samsung has a chipset in devlopement that will use ARM’s big.LITTLE technology, the first chipset to do so. This will pair four high-power Cortex-A15 cores clocked at 1.8GHz with the same number of low-power Cortex-A7 cores clocking at 1.2GHz and seamlessly switches between the two depending on the device load. Of course, it can’t run all at the same time.
Of course, like all rumors, this particular rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. These specs would probably show up in a tablet before they show up in a smartphone, but then who knows? Samsung may just pull a fast one on us and bring us a bit closer to our dream of living in the Star Trek realm.
