There have been a number of questions regarding the Tru VoIP App for PC and if it will work once Microsoft’s new “Modern UI”-based Windows 8 OS ships officially on October 26th. The answer to this question is, of course, yes, it will work in Windows 8 (, although it won’t be “Modernized” for the new tiles of course until Tru decides it’s time to upgrade.
The great thing about Windows 8 is that all Windows 7 applications and programs will work and run as they did in Windows 7, though there is a clear benefit to having Windows 8 versions of applications, live tiles being one of those key benefits. Being able to see who’s online and other important information without having to actually open the application is a benefit that cannot be overlooked.
Another great benefit of having a Windows 8 version of an application is the ease with which it can be developed for Windows Phone 8, since both operating systems use the same code at their cores. Tru App could likely take advantage of this setup and allow seamless and free communication with other Tru VoIP users from both platforms without having to write all new code.
So, yes, your Windows 7 version Tru VoIP App will work on Windows 8 for now. When the Windows 8 version does release at an unspecified time, it will likely find itself on Windows Phone 8 as well due to the ease at which it can be ported. Until then, staying connected via Tru VoIP in the “Modern UI” environment built by Microsoft will be the same as it has always been, so users should not be afraid to upgrade.
