Want a 16GB Nexus 7 tablet? Well, you may be waiting a bit. The 16GB version of Google’s ASUS-built Nexus 7 tablet appears to have sold out of the Google Play Store. A “coming soon” label on the page echoes this harsh reality for users in both the U.S. and the UK, but offers a form for email notification when the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean-powered tablet becomes available again.
This news comes only three days after Google updated its customers on expected shipping dates for pre-orders, stating that all US orders for the 16GB Nexus 7 placed before July 11th would ship by July 19th.
Sure, the news of the Nexus 7 tablet selling out is good news for Google, but it’s not so good for customers who are already eagerly awaiting their chance to hold the device in their hands. Even major retailers like Sams’s Club and GameStop sold out of the oft-sought tablet last Friday — its first day of widespread availability.
Consumers can still pre-order the 8GB version in the Play Store, however, and should ship in 3-5 days, so at least consumers do have another option to consider besides waiting for the 16GB version to be made available again.
