After retiring the modern Skype app in favor of the Desktop version earlier this summer, Microsoft is working to bring a unified experience to its new Windows 10 OS.
According to the company’s blog, Redmond has “begun upgrading Windows modern users to the Windows desktop app” with plans to “roll out the Preview for Universal Skype experiences built into Messaging, Phone and Video apps on Windows 10” at some point in the future. Though no specific date was stated, Microsoft did reveal that it would be at some point “later this summer.”
Integration of these apps will allow users to call or message easier and more efficiently, while also using the familiar Skype for Windows desktop application that already includes a wide range of features the modern app did not.
Microsoft recently released a new version of its Android app, so it’s clear the company is hard at work trying to keep Skype relevant and healthy in the face of growing competition.
