Research in Motion may have 80 million BlackBerry users, but there are those who see the company in a death-bringing, gloomy downward spiral, including many investors, shareholders, and longtime fans.
RIM CEO Thorsten Heins, however, believes people are underestimating the company’s odds for a revival because of the very large user base. Many of these users are paying monthly fees for various services, which Heins believes sets RIM apart from most other handset makers.
Heins does admit that the company has significant challenges, particularly in the North American market, but he is confident in the future of the company and believes the company is due for a resurgence once BlackBerry 10 hits the market.
“I’m confident we have something special and exciting that lives on its merit,” Heins told CNET in a recent interview. He also sees the delay as a bit of a good thing for RIM, citing the crowded competition during the busy holiday season, and sees the first quarter of 2013 as an advantageous time for releasing the new OS.
We definitely hope he’s right, as we’re looking forward to trying the new and improved Tru VoIP App out on BB10.
