According to the Wall Street Journal, the Amazon smartphone we reported on late last week is already in testing.
The Foxconn-built smartphone that Amazon is allegedly currently testing has a screen size of between four and five inches, one of the WSJ sources says, and the phone could be in production as early as this year or possibly early next year.
Amazon has yet to confirm the existence of such a device, but it is hardly a stretch considering Amazon’s Kindle Fire is one of the key players in the telecom industry’s competitive tablet market alongside Google’s Nexus 7 and Apple’s new iPad. To that end, the smartphone will likely be another home for Google’s Android OS, likely Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.
As long as the phone is GSM compatible so we can use it with Tru SIM (which is highly likely if this story confirms true), we welcome a new competitor to the smartphone market.
