Tango, a popular messaging application that boasts over 250 million registered users, announced that it has partnered with basketball stars Dwyane Wade, Tony Parker and Chris Paul to post exclusive photos, videos, and more via Tango Channels.
While Tango has teamed up with companies like Spotify in the past, this new partnership marks the first time the company has teamed up with professional athletes to provide exclusive content to users.
“Tango is a cutting edge platform,” said Tony Parker. “Partnering with this game-changing app is going to allow me to connect with fans like never before.”
Tango Channels, which launched initially in early June, provides a way for customers to connect with brands and celebrities they love. The platform is similar in tone to BlackBerry’s BBM Channels, with the exception being that BBM Channels works across iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and BlackBerry, while Tango’s platform only works on iOS and Android.
“These athletes are masters at connecting with their fans on social media platforms,” Tango’s co-founder, Eric Setton said. “Tango’s platform provides them with the perfect place to open a direct channel of communication with their fans and to share an insider glimpse into the life of a professional basketball player.”
Tango Channels today includes more than 100 different Channels from partners including Bleacher Report, Buzzfeed, Funny or Die, Hulu, Rhapsody, Vevo, Yahoo Live, and many others. In addition to the exclusive content that the athletes will be sharing, there will also be a new basketball sticker pack where each of the athletes has custom-designed stickers free for Tango members to use in chats and comments.
Tango says that it plans to add similar partnerships with other professional athletes and celebrities in the future.
