With metrics that will surprise no one, Mobidia has released numbers that clearly show Facebook’s app’s dominating the high end of the social and chat app spectrum among mobile users.
The apps, including Facebook, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger, are driving high engagement metrics around the world.
The analysis was based on a data set from millions of smartphone users across the globe, including those in China, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, the U.S., and the U.K. Mobidia’s report considered the top social and chat apps as well as videoconferencing, rich media, and VoIP apps and highlights the following trends:
- In the U.S., Facebook drove the most monthly usage of all apps with 68 percent of analyzed users averaging 730 minutes per month or 24 minutes per day.
- In Western Europe, Facebook’s WhatsApp led usage engagement with 73 percent of analyzed users averaging 612 minutes per month or 20 minutes per day.
- Facebook’s own mobile app realized engagement of 60 percent with users averaging 500 minutes per month.
- On a global basis, the Facebook app consistently experiences the highest monthly utilization results in all major markets (excluding South Korea, Japan and Germany), with over 50 percent of users analyzed engaging with the app every month.
Other top applications in the social and messaging space in the Western European region include Snapchat and Viber according to the report.
