It may have been a long time coming, but as predicted last month, the major Facebook acquisition of WhatsApp has been approved by the European Union today, which was revealed as the deadline early last month.
“We have carefully reviewed this proposed acquisition and come to the conclusion that it would not hamper competition in this dynamic and growing market. Consumers will continue to have a wide choice of consumer communications apps,” European Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said.

This approval follows the approval of the United States trade commission back in April and a high level of scrutiny by Europe’s governing body.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg believes the chat app can get 3 billion users but that awaits to be seen. WhatsApp is already the most popular messaging app in many countries.
