Ever since WeChat launched its social gaming platform about a year ago, which was expanded worldwide after hitting 570 million downloads in its first three months, it’s been lacking that killer app to push it into popularity outside of China.
That killer app may have arrived with the launch of its first non-Chinese game, King’s Candy Crush Saga, which launched on Android over the weekend (though the game is only available through Tenecen’ts AppGem store right now).
WeChat accounts can be used in the new Candy Crush Saga to allow you to compete against friends.
Gaming is starting to become something of a standard for some of the world’s biggest messaging apps
We’d be very surprised if a version for Apple devices wasn’t just around the corner, and the release on WeChat should go a long way in helping WeChat’s gaming platform compete with that of LINE and others on the market.
In fact, Candy Crush Saga has been available on KakaoTalk since last September.
Gaming is starting to become something of a standard for some of the world’s biggest messaging apps, with WeChat, LINE, KakaoTalk, Tango, and Kik Messenger all embracing the medium to increase user engagement.
WeChat is available for most major mobile platforms.
