Bolt is an emphemeral application similar to Snapchat and not to be confused with the Bolt messaging app. Instagram officially launched Bolt on July 29, 2014 on iOS and Android to a limited number of locales, with the promise of wider availability coming soon.
Despite its similarities with Snapchat, Bolt uses a more streamlined, one-touch approach to photo messaging for contacts added to favorites, which is the app’s claim to fame. It also includes an “undo” feature that allows the user to retract a message within a few seconds.
