We normally focus most of our news on developments in the mobile VoIP and global SIM card worlds, but with 802.11ac (also popularly known as 5G Wi-Fi) now imminent as a new built-in feature for PCs and laptops, we just have to write about it, as it will undoubtedly come in handy for booting up our VoIP and messaging apps in the near future.
According to Broadcom’s VP Michael Hurlston in a report obtained via The Verge, ASUS’s G75VW laptop will have the honor of being the first machine on the market with an 802.11ac radio inside, along with a 1080p display.
The new laptop will be available “very shortly,” said Hurlston, and thanks to the increased bandwidth from dual-antenna MIMO support, will be capable of theoretical speeds in the 800–850Mbps range.
The Broadcom VP also drew attention to more 802.11ac-capable products coming from Asus, including a P8Z7-V series motherboard, and the RT-AC66U wireless router we reported about a few days ago.
