Squawk was founded in January 2014 and initially began in beta form in spring 2014 with hundreds of close family members and friends of the founders, who describe themselves as “a shadowy consortium of undergraduates from Brown University.” The Squawk app was created as an alternative to simply “tapping letters on glass” and deals exclusively with instantaneous and ephemeral voice messaging.
The Squawk app initially launched on Apple devices on July 10, 2014. An Android version was planned for release in summer 2014.
