Have you ever wanted to have a conversation with your home appliances? Have you ever tried talking to your home appliances? If you’ve answered yes to the last question (and you’re somehow still roaming free in society) then KakaoTalk and LG just might have the perfect solution for you to do it for real.
LG Electronics has announced that it will launch its virtual assistant service HomeChat together with Kakao’s mobile messenger KakaoTalk starting next month. The HomeChat solution will let you control your LG-branded smart home appliances through a KakaoTalk text message using natural language processing. These appliances include air-conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and ovens.
Control your air-conditioners, refrigerators, televisions and ovens with natural language
When you make friends with HomeChat on KakaoTalk and then register your appliances with the service, you’ll be able to start controlling them with natural language. For instance, you can tell your oven how hot to heat up or tell your air conditioner how cold you want it to be.
LG has been providing the service in collaboration with LINE and wants to work with KakaoTalk since it’s the most popular app in South Korea, whereas LINE is more popular overseas.
It’s not clear if or when users outside South Korea will be able to utilize this service but it’s nevertheless interesting to see such use coming out of KakaoTalk and LINE, and it will be even more interesting to see if and when other messaging apps unveil similar features down the road.
It’s clear to see that the popularity of smart home solutions is only set to increase. Services like Crestron Home Automation could help to install high end systems homes which includes implementing the latest technology allowing you to connect to lighting, AV, HVAC and window covering controls and more!
