Skype for Windows Phone has been updated to version 2.19.0.172 and adds some welcome new features and improvements to Microsoft’s mobile OS, particularly Windows Phone 8.1.
Both Windows Phone 8 and 8.1 have received increased language support with an increase of supported languages from 19 to 51, a pretty decent-sized leap that should tear down a few language barriers in the process.
Skype also gained the ability for you to edit your last sent message, as well as improved notifications and fast app resume, which speed up both processes significantly.
The latest version includes Cortana and Action Center support, exclusive to Windows Phone 8.1
Exclusive to Windows Phone 8.1 are features such as Cortana integration and Action Center enhancements. As demonstrated at Microsoft’s BUILD conference, you can now start Skype calls with Cortana. Simply say “Skype, video call…” and then the name of your contact and you’re set to go. Other prompts work as well, but this will likely be one of the most commonly used.
As for Action Center, notifications from Skype now appear in the newly-added section of the Windows Phone OS.
