Tango announced it would be running a donation drive for the nonprofit Cell Phones for Soldiers, an organization that’s been providing cost-free communication services to active-duty military members and veterans for the past 10 years.
Tango offers it users ways to get involved and help U.S. troops stay connected with their loved ones:
- Text for Vets
Send a text over Tango to a friend, and Tango will donate .01 cent for every text sent –up to $10,000. - Donate a Used Cell Phone
Donate an unused wireless device. Shipping is free and easy for Tango users in the U.S., with a postage-paid shipping label provided by Cell Phones for Soldiers.
Tango users aren’t the only ones getting involved; bins at Tango’s Mountain View, California office will also be accepting cell phone donations from employees.
“We are incredibly thankful for Tango’s support to our organization and our troops this Memorial Day,” said Robbie Bergquist, co-founder of Cell Phones for Soldiers. “We know our troops will always play an important role in peacekeeping missions across the globe and want to afford them the opportunity to call home for free.”
“The need to stay connected to those you care about is truly global”
“The need to stay connected to those you care about is truly global, and it’s especially heartfelt by troops no matter which country or military organization they serve,” said Jean-Phillipe Emelie Marcos, chief operating officer for Tango. “Tango is proud to salute the troops by teaming up with Cell Phones for Soldiers, while also continuing to provide one of the leading messaging apps that connects people who are far apart over video, voice calls and texts.”
The “Text for Vets” campaign will run through May 26.
