The competition in the messaging space is heating up and is showing no signs of cooling down. To help set itself apart from the increasing competition, WeChat, operated by China’s Tencent, has started offering 1 GB cloud storage free to users to save pictures, voice notes, videos and text messages directly on the cloud.
Cloud storage adds value to the overall communication experience and could encourage user interaction
The storage can be accessed via the “Favorite” option within the app (“Favourite” if you’re outside the United States). After selecting the content as Favorite, the content can be accessed any time from multiple devices. This feature adds value to the overall communication experience and could encourage user interaction, a major focus for apps since the major acquisition of WhatsApp by Facebook earlier this year.
WeChat has over 300 million registered accounts around the globe and was reached a popularity surpassing that of Skype, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram last year.
WeChat is available for download for Android, BlackBerry, iOS, Symbian and Windows Phone.
