Even though it’s technically very similar, Microsoft has chosen to keep Lync apart from Skype. Lync is directed more toward enterprise professionals while Skype takes the consumer route.
Microsoft has now released Lync for those who have taken the opportunity to update to Windows 8.1. The signing in experience has received a nice tweak as well as the following additional changes:
- Take control of shared screens and apps during Lync meetings.
- Run Lync side-by-side with another app at any window size – perfect for multitasking.
- Answer both incoming audio and video calls on the lock screen.
- Mute and controll volume from within the Lync client itself.
- In-app contact search.
If you haven’t done so already, you can download Lync from the Windows Store and you can also download the Windows Phone version of Microsoft Lync so you can stay connected to all of your professional contacts even when you’re away from your office.
