Skype for Mac, Skype app, calling and messaging

Click to Call is a plugin of convenience, allowing Skype users to call phone numbers while browsing the web, highlighting the numbers in the trademark Skype blue hue. As the name of the plugin implies, you simply click on this light blue phone number to initiate a call using your Skype account.

Mac OS X Mavericks users on Safari may have to settle for the old-school dialing approach, at least for the time being. As The Next Web reports, Skype has temporarily pulled the Skype Click to Call plugin for Safari.

Skype said the plugin was “no longer compatible with the Safari (Mac) browser” due to “changes in the new Mac OS X Mavericks” but didn’t specify what the issues were, but did say they are currently working on a fix, so at least it’s only a temporary inconvenience for those who use it. No timeframe was given on when a fix could be released.

It’s worth noting that if you already have the plugin installed, it will work normally if you’re not upgrading to OS X Mavericks. It’s recommended that you disable the plugin in your browser before going through with the OS X upgrade (Preferences >> Extensions >> Uncheck Enable Skype Click to Call).

We’ll update this article when a timeframe is given for a fix or any new information is obtained.
