If you’re really into Tango Games, you’re not alone. Gameloft, the company behind such games as World at Arms for Tango, has announced record revenues totaling €61.7 in the third quarter.
Over the first nine months of 2013, Gameloft achieved consolidated sales of €171.0 million, up 14% year on year. On a constant-exchange-rate basis, growth for the first nine months was 17%. Gameloft’s third quarter sales on smartphones and tablets grew by 31% year on year. They represented 69% of total Group sales compared with 58% in the third quarter of 2012.
These sales were driven by success of Gameloft-published games on smartphones and tablets, including those on the Tango platform as well as the company’s free to play business model. 80% of the smartphone revenues for the company represent sales of virtual goods and mobile advertising.
In the last 30 days, no less than 140 million people have played a Gameloft game on their smartphone or tablet, although the publisher did not say how many of these were Tango-based gamers.
Still, it’s definitely a great representation of all the money to be made from mobile gaming, and it also shows how popular gaming on apps such as Tango can be. With a number of calling and messaging apps having their own gaming platforms, it’s certainly an exciting time to be a mobile gamer.
