Tango’s app isn’t about simply messaging anymore. The company has really been focused on gaming as of late as it seeks to build an entire entertainment platform on top of the calling and messaging features.
Now Tango’s about to get into the music biz; Tango announced today that it has partnered with Spotify. Starting today, Tango’s 160 million members will be able to search Spotify’s catalog of over 20 million songs on their mobile devices and further customize messages sent to Tango friends.
Users will be able to instantly share clips of their favorites through group chat or with anyone in the Tango community using social features like “People Nearby” and “People You May Know.”
The Tango partnership is the first time Spotify has truly integrated into a social platform
It’s worth noting that this new partnership also marks the first time Spotify has been integrated into a platform like Tango’s, creating the first mobile messaging app to blend communication, the aforementioned gaming, social features and music.
Tango users will also have access to access exclusive Spotify content, including a new live EP from Lorde – recorded exclusively for Spotify and available beginning Nov. 1.
“Our partnership with Spotify adds an amazing catalog of music to the many ways in which Tango’s users can express themselves through messaging,” said Uri Raz, CEO of Tango. “Since opening the Tango platform to developers this summer, we’ve been focused on developing partnerships like this to provide the most engaging experience for our members.”

“Mobile messaging is one of today’s fastest-growing communications platforms, and our partnership with Tango expands our mobile footprint globally and furthers our mission to provide people around the world with music for every moment,” said Alex Norstrom, VP of Growth for Spotify. “Now Tango users can easily access Spotify to personalize their messages and instantly discover and share their favorite music with friends.”
First gaming, now music. It’ll be interesting to see where the Tango service evolves from here. What would you like to see come next? Let us know in the comments!
