Skype lovers will likely find the Xbox One console a bit of a pricy buy to simply use Skype when it launches later this year (more on this below). Luckily, Skype is simply a feature within the game system that you can access as long as you’re willing to fork over the cash for an Xbox Live Gold membership.
Xbox One, though, will offer higher quality voice chats than you can find currently on your Windows Phones, PCs, and other smartphones as well as tablets. This is due to complete integration with Skype’s audio codec according to target=”_blank”>Major Nelson. The codec has been put through the proverbial ringer with hours of use, and will allow “higher quality voice chat with the Xbox One Chat Headset compared to Xbox 360.”
The data transfer rate has also been boosted to 24 KHz PCM, and a 50 percent better capture rate than Xbox 360 headsets. The Major enclosed a couple of sound samples which we’ve embedded below.
That’s the good news for those looking forward to the Xbox One. The bad news? The Xbox One will reportedly not be launching on the original rumored date of November 8th. The launch date hasn’t been announced as of yet, but will still be in the month of November.
