Have you ever wanted to look at your cell phone, blink, and have it magically come to life? Well thanks to Samsung, this dream is now a reality. Samsung has added a little upgrade to their Face Unlock feature that adds the need to blink in order to bypass the Face Unlock screen. The upgrade was added to Android ICS-running Galaxy S II phones.
Along with the blinking upgrade, Samsung also added a novel S Go Launcher Pro, Beta Font, a Photo Editor, and Snapshot.
The security is still unlikely to be foolproof, though it does make it a little more difficult to trick into mistakenly unlocking for a stranger (such as with a snapshot of the user as noted by Google). SlashGear reported that while the system was both entertaining and frustrating in equal measure, it was “having trouble with changed haircuts, sunglasses and different expressions.”
Blinking isn’t the only face-recognition feature Face Unlock will include. Samsung’s product team is also working on adding smiling to the mix.
