LINE Lite, LINE messaging app, LINE usernames

If you’ve always wanted to use LINE’s messaging app, but your Android smartphone just can’t take the heat of the full application, there’s now a great new solution for you in the form of LINE Lite.

LINE Lite brings LINE to users who are on low end devices or simply want to save on storage space and data while staying in touch with their LINE friends. The app takes up a very conservative 1MB compared to the regular app’s 30-70MB (depending on the device).

LINE Lite contains only some of the features of the main app

With LINE Lite, you can look forward to the core features of the mainstream software such as LINE stickers, group messaging, and picture messaging. You will not, however, be able to make or receive audio or video calls, nor will you be able to post to your Timeline or play LINE Games. LINE does plan to introduce new features in the future.

If you’re in one of 11 launch countries — Algeria, Cambodia, Colombia, Egypt, India, Mexico, Pakistan, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Korea, and Vietnam — you’ll be able to download the app immediately from the Google Play Store.

The new LINE Lite app can be seen as a play to expand LINE’s presence to emerging markets, where low-end devices can be found in wider availability. It’s certainly a smart move by the Japanese messaging company, who continues to compete with the likes of WhatsApp, WeChat, and Skype, as well as many others, for marketshare.
