Following the release of WhatsApp voice calling on iOS and Android, WhatsApp Messenger’s newest feature is rolling out to BlackBerry 10 users, expanding the new feature beyond the beta testing period where it’s been available for the last few months to general availability.
The new BlackBerry app also comes with some additional improvements and added features, including message, chat and contact searching with a tap, location sharing on a bigger map, and new font and highlight settings.
You can also set custom ringtones for WhatsApp calls
You can also set custom ringtones for WhatsApp calls by visiting the Settings page or add friends who send you messages directly from conversations and groups.
To make a call on the BB10 platform, open the Calls tab, click the icon at the top of the screen, and choose a contact, then chat as normal; conversations are logged in the app for later reference.
A feature that has already been available on iOS, Android, and Windows Phone — voice messages — has also been released in the new version. Voice messages can be sent by pressing and holding the microphone icon above the keyboard.
WhatsApp had announced plans for voice calling more than a year ago at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, but didn’t roll out until last month on iOS and Android.
Now that the feature has been made available for BlackBerry 10, it’s only a matter of time before Windows Phone users will be able to enjoy it as well. Download WhatsApp Messenger here.
