Anyone who has ever used Google Voice or similar services knows what voice transcription entails: it essentially turns your voicemails into text messages. In a perfect world, it would allow you to know what your voicemails say without you having to call in to your voicemail inbox, but results with each service have been of varied accuracy.
Way back in 2013, when Facebook introduced the ability to send and receive voice clips into its Facebook Messenger app, a feature like this would have been a neat addition to the app alongside the new voice feature, but it never arrived. Fortunately, it looks like that may be changing.
David Marcus, the man who runs Messenger, stated recently that Facebook is currently planning to test this new feature “at a tiny scale.” This means that only a select few will be able to actually read a voice clip sent in conversation.

Once the feature’s been tested, it will likely expand to other users. Of course, it’s also equally possible that it could be another feature that won’t see the light of day on the messaging service.
