WhatsApp messaging, WhatsApp VoIP, calling and messaging apps

We’ve been hearing whispers of WhatsApp Messenger launching a web version for awhile now, whispers that became a little louder thanks to recent revelations by Telegram co-founder Pavel Durov, who recently told TechCrunch that he thought WhatsApp was working on a web version “since they tried to hire our web dev.”

Though no official mention of a web version has been made, there’s now more evidence that seems to point to this as a possibility. AndroidWorld.nl has found code hidden inside a recent WhatsApp update that makes mention of “WhatsApp Web:”

WhatsApp for Web, Web version of WhatsApp Messenger

It doesn’t really prove anything other than that WhatsApp may be testing the idea. Ideas are often scrapped, however, so until there’s an official announcement, it’s likely we’ll have to wait a little while longer, if ever, to chat with our WhatsApp friends in our favorite web browsers.

Would you use a WhatsApp for Web?
