LINE app for WP, LINE on Windows Phone, messaging apps on Windows

LINE for Windows Phone has been updated to version 3.6.0, adding a number of new features that brings it ever closer to its iOS and Android counterparts, though it’s not quite there yet.

The new update allows you to send multiple images as well as preview images. You can also now forward and delete messages, and preview unread messages via Live Tile on Windows Phone 8 and 8.1. It’s worth noting that if the Live Tile doesn’t work. Try unpinning and repining the tile to your Start Screen. On this note, clear Live Tile support has also been added to Windows Phone 8.1.

The biggest news here (and one of the most glaring holes in the service for WP users) is the arrival of “partial” support for receiving messages from official accounts. Previously you would have to contend with an error message whenever an official account message is received that simply said the message “wasn’t supported in the Windows Phone version” of the app. Hopefully this means LINE users will be seeing this message less.

Other changes in the new update are as follows:

  • Improvements to the navigation UI on the Main Page
  • Access speed to main screen improved
  • User can now purchase paid stickers from the Sticker Shop menu (OS 8.0, 8.1)
  • Bug fixes and performance improvements

This update proves that LINE is serious about its wish to become the world’s top messaging platform and has also proven a new commitment to Microsoft’s mobile OS (though we’re still waiting for LINE’s games.
