Disney has announced the global launch of its LINE game Disney Tsum Tsum (pronounced Soom-Soom and translates as Disney Stack Stack), which has seen its own success with 14 million downloads in LINE‘s home turf of Japan. With the global launch, Disney hopes to expand that same success to other countries as well.
Jimmy Pitaro, the president of Disney Interactive, revealed that this is “one of the first times that Disney has introduced a distinctly Japanese product to a global audience.”
Disney Tsum Tsum is a timed game in which you try to pop as many Tsum characters as you can in one minute. These characters are often based on Disney and Pixar franchises and include (of course) Mickey Mouse and their own special abilities to utilize within the game. LINE players can connect and share scores with friends as well as send in-game gifts.
There have been quite a few LINE games launched over the last year as the company continues to expand its global reach as not only a messaging app, but also a gaming and entertainment platform. Other competitors like Kik and KakaoTalk have also launched their own gaming platforms, which aspire to increase user interaction and expand app reach, and profits.
Disney Tsum Tsum can be downloaded via iTunes or Google Play.
