Messaging apps, WP8, Windows Phone 8

The massively successful WhatsApp Messenger has just received an update for Windows Phone that really doesn’t do much as far as add new functionality, but it does indeed improve localization, which can in turn lead to more announcements like this.

Arabic and Greek speakers using Windows Phone can now join in on WhatsApp

The new update adds Arabic and Greek languages, giving our friends who speak those languages a chance to join in on the WhatsApping fun. Miscellaneous bug fixes are also included in the update. The update version number has been pushed to 2.11.298.0.

WhatsApp is seeing more usage than Facebook or BBM. While BBM has seen its own success on iOS and Android, is the 12th most requested feature on Windows Phone, and has also surpassed Facebook’s Messenger usage by far, it’s going to take a lot more to be able to take WhatsApp from the top spot.
