KakaoHome, Android launcher, Android home screens

Despite the fact that Facebook Home, the alternative Android launcher that was announced last month, isn’t all that popular, KakaoTalk decided to go ahead and build its own alternative anyway, a launcher appropriately called KakaoHome.

The launcher substitutes the default UI of the Android on which it is installed with an interface that echoes that of the KakaoTalk app. In fact, the messaging app is well integrated into the launcher, and brings with it a few widgets.

KakaoHome is currently available only to users in South Korea, with no word as to if or when it will be released in other markets.

With the launch of KakaoHome, one cannot help but wonder if a trend might be developing among the social elite. It’s getting easier and easier to visualize a LINE or Viber launcher.

Of course, seeing the success of Facebook Home, it could also very well be the type of thing that ends up DOA. Only time will tell.
