It’s been a couple of months since Microsoft disabled the Skype WP8 People Hub integration and we knew Microsoft was working diligently to bring it back, but we didn’t know when. Finally, the latest update brings the feature back to the mobile operating system in a big way, assuming of course you have the latest update, codenamed “Portico,” installed on your WP8 device.

The new update allows Windows Phone users to place calls and send instant messages to their Skype contacts directly from their Windows Phone contacts. In addition, the update introduces high-definition video on both the rear and frong facing cameras with both portrait and landscape orientations.

There is no mention of Skype’s new video voicemail messaging feature in the latest update, but we’d be surprised if it wasn’t in the pipeline. For now, though, users will have to contend with the additions that have been made, which shouldn’t be a problem for most. The new version of Skype (version 2.4.0.108) is now available for download in the Windows Phone Store.
