Microsoft Lync, Lync 2013 mobile app, VoIP and Messaging

While Microsoft intends to link their Skype and Lync services by June, that hasn’t slowed their intent to get the VoIP and instant messaging service to as many devices as possible.

The company just announced that Lync 2013 has arrived on Windows Phone. In addition, Microsoft plans to release the application soon for Apple devices, something that many users agree was a long time coming.

The new Lync brings VoIP calls (including video calling), easier navigation, and additional functionality and tweaks to the aforementioned mobile platforms, and also brings an iPad exclusive desktop/application share view option.

The Lync 2013 application is compatible with Windows Phone 8, and does not appear to be coming to Windows Phone 7.5 or 7.8 anytime soon. The iOS application is currently awaiting Apple’s approval before being made available in the iTunes app store; assuming all goes well with that process, users should be able to download the app later this week.
