The latest report out of SamMobile indicates that the Galaxy S III should get an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google’s newest OS version, as early as Q3 2012. The site reports that internal testing on the Galaxy S III has proven successful and “public” builds are now being put through the ringer with launch anticipation around late third quarter or very early fourth quarter.
The Galaxy S III isn’t the only one getting some sugar-induced love. Both the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Note are reportedly being tested with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as well. Again, the update is expected from Samsung before year’s end. A “value pack” of sorts that brings some of the best Jelly Bean features to pre-Jelly Bean devices unable to run the full OS (similar to Windows Phone 7.8 for pre-Windows Phone 8 devices) could be in the cards as well.
The Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Note 10.1 are on the horizon and the Galaxy Note 2 in particular is expected to launch with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, but is also expected to receive an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean this year, unless of course it launches with Jelly Bean from the get-go.
The full breakdown of the upgrades (which have yet to be confirmed by Samsung) follows:
- Galaxy S III – End Q3 begin Q4
- Galaxy S II – Q4
- Galaxy Note – Q4
- Galaxy Note II – begin Q4
