It’s been a long time coming, but hopefully the wait was worth it for the millions of BlackBerry fans out there. RIM has finally announced an official launch date for the 4G LTE-capable BlackBerry PlayBook, seen in recently leaked photos as the “BlackBerry 4G PlayBook.”
It’ll be available in Canada “on select carriers” on August 9th. There’s not yet word on pricing or which carriers will be offering the new device, nor whether or not this device has the upgraded 1.5GHz processor that was rumored a few weeks ago, but RIM is expected to make that knowledge available soon.
As for those of us living outside of RIM’s home field, more PlayBooks that support “various high speed cellular networks” will be launched in the US, Europe, South Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean “in the coming months,” according to RIM.
RIM highlights some of the advantages of the tablet, such as pointing out that the tablet “supports more HTML 5 content than any other native tablet browser on the market” and new BlackBerry Video Store access.
