Even though we’ve already heard that Windows Phone 8 devices were coming this fall, Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet thinks the wait may be just a bit longer than the September-October forecast we’ve been hearing.
This message is coming as part of Microsoft’s release roadmap. Foley’s source is now pegging the RTM build of that mobile OS for September, with the finalized consumer version not hitting until November. That means that no handsets running Windows Phone 8, or even phones that can run the code, will go on sale until the month before the holidays.
Given that timing and an impending October 26th launch for Windows 8, any plans Redmond might’ve had for a simultaneous launch of their two platforms look to be out of the question. As with all rumors, though, this should be taken with a heaping spoonful grain of salt.
