If you’ve been using a BlackBerry PlayBook to keep in touch with your Tru friends and you feel the slab hasn’t yet reached its full potential, worry not; RIM has you covered.
PlayBook OS 2.1 beta version has finally arrived as the company promised and with it some handy additions that nudge the tablet a little closer to that aforementioned fulfilled potential.
They have added portrait support for the Email, Calendar and Contacts apps. That should help those of us with bigger fingers especially. Also included in the beta are full device encryption, improved e-mail folder support, and some minor tweaks like .png screenshots.
Worth mentioning is the fact that the Android runtime has also been updated to allow multiple apps to run in separate windows, access the camera module and support in-app payments via the BlackBerry Payment SDK.
From what we’ve heard from RIM, there will also be more coming in the official post-beta release. In the meantime, you can register for the beta at the source link.
