Out of the three smartphones Huawei announced at Mobile World Congress in February, the Ascend D1 got the least amount of attention in technology news. Finally, though, the dual-core handset is getting its chance to shine.
As the first of the three devices to obtain the FCC‘s nod of approval, the Huawei Ascend D1 stands to be the first handset available to SIM and Application users.
Nothing major was revealed about the handset, but the documents confirm quadband GSM and pentaband HSPA+ / WCDMA, a welcome treat for those wanting to take advantage of faster speeds on more spectrum frequencies.
There was no word on if the device would come locked to a certain carrier (and therefore would have to be unlocked to use on international SIMs) or if it would be sold unlocked only a la Nokia’s 808 PureView, but at least we know the unlocked version will indeed work on global SIM networks without a hitch.
So far, it looks as though the device is on track for a Q2 release.
