Apple New iPad, iPad 3, battery, specs

Apple has said that the third-generation iPad should equal the iPad 2 in battery life. However, PCWorld has found that statement contrary when using the new iPad in the real world.

“PCWorld Labs battery-life tests show that, in a controlled environment, Apple’s claims don’t hold up: The new iPad lasted just 5 hours, 41 minutes, nearly 2 hours less than the iPad 2, which logged 7 hours, 37 minutes.”

PC World performed its tests while playing “Big Buck Bunny” at 320 x 180 resolution with Wi-Fi left on. The video had an approximate play time of 9 minutes, 56 seconds.

The tests showed that the battery life of the new iPad does outperform many Android tablets but the iPad 2 still reigns superior. While Apple estimated the battery life of the newly-released tablet at 10 hours, the new iPad lasted only 5 hours and 41 minutes in PC World’s conducted video tests.

Apple says its estimates are based on mixed audio, video, and Web-browsing use, over Wi-Fi or cellular networks.

The new iPad has a much more powerful processor and a higher resolution display, which could indeed play a factor in the loss of battery life, but it’s unknown how much is actually attributable. The new iPad lasted 10 hours, 10 minutes in brightness tests compared to the iPad 2’s 13 hours, 20 minutes.

More details of the test and additional results can be viewed on PC World’s website at the source link below.

If battery life is more important than raw power, some might suggest that you may want to give that iPad 2 a second glance. If you’re one who likes the biggest and best technology has to offer, the new iPad just might be right up your alley.
