Up until now, US carrier Sprint has been the sole carrier with which Google has chosen to integrate its popular Google Voice service.
Well, this relationship might not hold exclusive for much longer.
“We are having discussions with other carriers about this,” Vincent Paquet, Group Product Manager for Google Voice, told CNET in an interview. He declined to name specific carriers in the US or otherwise, but we’re of course hoping Tru will be among these eventually (It’s a long shot at the moment, but who knows what the future might bring?).
Paquet said the integration with Sprint “worked really well,” and it looks like Google wants to expand that “steady stream” of signups to more carriers, and more operating systems. This could prove especially amazing on Google’s Android OS.
Many Tru users are already using Google Voice through the Google Voice app on their phone or through their computers to help cut text messaging costs associated with the continued absence of bundle plans on Tru SIM.
These two services have worked extremely well together, so the possibility (however small) of officially bringing Google Voice into the Truphone fold is certainly intriguing.
